Your privacy
Privacy policy
Law for Living is built so the answers you type into a questionnaire stay in your browser. This policy explains what we do collect, why, who receives it, and the choices you have.
Effective September 4, 2026
Who we are
Law for Living (“we”, “us”) is a Canadian business that operates lawforliving.com, a self-service document-preparation website for United States legal documents. We are not a law firm. For privacy questions or requests, email jaymebuilds@gmail.com.
Questionnaire answers stay on your device
Your questionnaire answers, draft progress, and generated document text are stored in your browser’s local storage and assembled into a document in your browser. We do not transmit your answers to our servers to build the document, and we do not keep a copy of your finished document. Anyone with access to your browser profile may be able to view a saved draft; clear site data for lawforliving.com to remove it. If you clear browser data or change devices, your draft is gone and we cannot recover it.
Information we do collect
Payment and access data. Payments are processed by Whop, Inc. Whop collects your email, payment method, and billing details under its own privacy policy. We receive a payment identifier, the plan purchased, payment status, and the metadata we attach to the checkout (an order token and the product name). We never see or store your full card number.
Usage and device data. We use PostHog analytics to understand how the site is used and how our advertising performs. This includes pages viewed, buttons clicked, the questionnaire steps you reach, whether a step failed validation, checkout and payment status, the state you selected, purchase amount, approximate location derived from your IP address, referring website, device type, browser, operating system, screen size, and page performance. It also includes session recordings, described below.
Advertising identifiers. If you arrive from an advertisement, we record the campaign parameters in the link (such as utm_ values and click identifiers like gclid, fbclid, or msclkid) and keep them associated with your visit for up to 90 days so we can attribute a purchase to the campaign that brought you here. When a payment is verified, Google may receive the purchase amount and a payment transaction identifier for conversion measurement.
Support messages. If you email us, we receive whatever you include in the message.
Session recordings
PostHog may record how you move through the site, including mouse movement, scrolling, clicks, and page structure, so we can find confusing steps and fix bugs. Recordings are configured to mask every form field, every displayed answer on review and download pages, the document preview, and your name. Text you type and the contents of your document are replaced with placeholders before a recording leaves your browser. Do not type personal information into unlabeled areas of a page, since only form fields and marked regions are masked.
Cookies and similar storage
We use the following on your device:
- Draft storage (local storage): your questionnaire answers and progress, until you clear them.
- Attribution storage (local storage): campaign parameters from the link that brought you here, up to 90 days.
- Analytics cookie and storage (PostHog,
ph_prefix): a random identifier that lets us recognize the same browser across visits, plus session identifiers. Persists for up to one year. - Checkout cookies (HTTP-only): a short-lived order token during checkout, and a signed access cookie for up to 30 days after purchase that unlocks your download without an account.
- Whop cookies set inside the embedded payment form, governed by Whop’s policy.
We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals. You can block analytics with a content blocker or by disabling JavaScript for analytics domains, and you can delete all of the above by clearing site data for lawforliving.com. Blocking analytics does not affect checkout or your documents.
How we use information
- To create and confirm your purchase and unlock your download.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the site and its questionnaires.
- To measure which advertising campaigns lead to purchases and how much they cost.
- To respond to support requests.
- To detect abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with law.
We do not use your questionnaire answers for any purpose. We do not sell personal information for money.
Who receives information
- Whop, Inc. processes payments and receives the checkout data described above.
- PostHog, Inc. hosts our analytics and session recordings on servers in the United States.
- Vercel, Inc. hosts the website and sees standard server logs such as IP address, requested URL, and user agent.
- Advertising platforms such as Google or Meta receive click identifiers when we report that a click led to a purchase, so they can measure the campaign. Under some state privacy laws this can count as “sharing” for targeted advertising; you can opt out by emailing us.
- Authorities or advisers when required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a sale or reorganization of the business.
Retention
Analytics events and recordings are kept for up to 12 months. Payment records are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax, and dispute handling, typically seven years. Support emails are kept as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request and keep business records. Questionnaire answers are never stored by us, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information we hold, to opt out of targeted advertising or “sharing”, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Email jaymebuilds@gmail.com with the email address you used at checkout, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. Because analytics data is tied to a random browser identifier rather than your name, we may ask you to provide that identifier from your browser’s storage to locate it. You may appeal a decision by replying to our response.
Children
The service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
International visitors
Law for Living is operated from Canada and is subject to Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA. The website is hosted by Vercel and our analytics and payment processors store data in the United States, so your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. If you are in Canada, you may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, checkout cookies are HTTP-only and signed, and payment details never touch our servers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and your saved draft is only as safe as the device and browser it sits in.
Changes
We will post any changes here with a new effective date. Material changes apply going forward from that date.
